Squarism: specifically, regarding your implicits problem earlier, bindind sites of implicit parameters can define bindings only for implicit parameters, you can't mix, re the bullet points here: https://downloads.haskell.org/~ghc/latest/docs/html/users_guide/glasgow_exts.html#implicit-parameter-bindings

basically the vague parse error you were getting was due to the next thing in the let not starting with ? as it expected :>
